한국인이 운영하는 Child Sister 카페도 좋은 카페로 선택됐습니다.

The Best Cafes In Christchurch In 2022

The cafe scene in Christchurch has really taken off and what’s better than spending your day sipping away on endless cups of coffee and enjoying some smashed avo or a cheeky eggs bene?

Lucky for us, the city is scattered with some amazing cafés from the hub of the CBD out to Halswell and everywhere in between

Suburban Rascal

Halswell

Suburban Rascal is the perfect wee brunch spot next time you’re in the burbs of beautiful Halswell. The homely atmosphere allows for the perfect place to relax and enjoy a long brunch. Whether you're in the mood for french toast, chilli scrambled eggs or even sourdough bruschetta with harissa hummus, their seasonally rotating menu is sure to hit the spot whatever you're craving. It would be remiss of us to fail to mention their amazing cabinet selection where you'll also find hands down some of the best scones in Christchurch.

Table At Monk’s

Christchurch Central

A firm favourite in Christchurch central is Table At Monk’s. Definite highlights include the lemon ricotta and blueberry waffle, the shakshuka and the Monk’s veggie breakfast. Stylish, cosy interiors coupled with an equally relaxed atmosphere and great service, this café is undoubtedly one of the best in the Garden City.

Child Sister

Christchurch Central

Child Sister has been a mainstay on the brunch scene since its opening in 2019. Step inside the sleek, light-filled interior and you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to Sydney or Melbourne. Designed by a Sydney-based architect, it’s no wonder it feels different to the many industrial and homey cafés Christchurch has become known for. Located on Manchester Street across from Margaret Mahy park, it is a beautifully aesthetic restaurant that serves up all the usual classics with a Korean twist. Stand out dishes include the Kimchi Rice Omelette, Gochujang shakshuka and their famed honey butter waffle fries.

Saturdays Cafe

New Brighton

Nothing is better than a cafe that looks like it was just made for the perfect Instagram brunch pic. That’s exactly what you’ll find at the stunning waterfront Saturdays cafe situated in New Brighton. After taking a quick dip down at the pier, tuck into some indulgent fare such as the fried chicken burger, banoffee pie waffles and smashed avocado bagel. It's basically the best post-swim treat!

Doubles

Christchurch Central

A newcomer to our garden city is Doubles found on Worcester Boulevard. After taking a stroll down the Arts Centre, pop into this cafe for some hearty favourites. The Courtside Bowl is a must-try for a healthier brunch choice otherwise tuck into their Club Champ, which is their spin on the classic eggs bene. We have a feeling this popular new eatery will be here for a long time.

The Origin

St. Albans

Not your typical cafe, The Origin's menu is 100% vegetarian, but that doesn’t mean it compromises on flavour. The St. Albans cafe serves some of the city’s most beautifully presented and delicious dishes plus New Zealand-grown organic tea and speciality coffee. The small menu is filled with sweet and savoury options ranging from pancakes to dumplings and is one of the best cafes in Christchurch.

Purple Weka Cafe & Bar

Christchurch Central

Named after The Weka, a cheeky bird that will sneak up and steal anything left lying around, Purple Weka Cafe And Bar has a good sense of humour along with some excellent kai and a friendly atmosphere. Coupled with a wide selection of cabinet food, a firm highlight is their steak sandwich served with onions, Swiss cheese, salad greens and crispy golden chips. Go for the yummy food and stay for the cheeky banter.

In Situ

Hillsborough

Next time you’re heading out to Lyttleton, make a stop at Insitu Cafe. Nestled on busy Opawa Road, this is a top coffee spot for commuters using local brand Lyttleton coffee. We recommend the creamy mushrooms or the mince on toast as comforting classics alongside a good cup of joe. Although tempting to grab a bite to eat and run, be sure to take some time to relax at this cool eatery.

The new kid on the block, South Town Club on Welles Street, will quickly become your new favourite brunch spot. Their menu is small but mighty and offers the chance to try a few things off their little bites menu for those wanting to share with friends or their bigger menu if you’re in the mood for something a bit heartier. Their drinks menu is equally as impressive and we definitely recommend their international hand brew filter coffee to elevate your coffee game to the next level.

Westend Stories

Christchurch Central

Tucked away on the corner in the CBD lies Westend Stories. This modern cafe not only has stunning interiors but the food is equally as gorgeous. With an ever-changing and innovative menu depending on the season, this leafy space offers both indulgent and wholesome selections for brunch. Think succulent chicken waffles with sriracha honey, maple corn puree & roasted seasonal fruit, smashed greens with grilled halloumi & mint hummus and huevos ranchos with poached eggs and charred tortilla. They even boast a wide variety of gluten-free and vegetarian options making it the perfect choice for all.

Strange Bandit by Luciano

Burnside

Luciano Marcolino is an award-winning barista and his love for coffee is taken to new heights at Burnside's Strange Bandit. While their coffee is definitely one of the best in the city, their menu is equally as enticing. A firm highlight is the Korean Style Beef Short Rib on Rice, a nourishing and comforting meal showcasing the wonders of Korean fried chicken. Another standout is the Mystery Burger where the chefs will choose what goes into the burger while you sit back and enjoy.

Dose Diner

Found on Blenheim Road, Dose Diner has injected some life into this industrial area. You’ll feel transported to the cafe scene found in Melbourne through its extensive menu and chill vibe. The cafe has both spacious tables and a cosy booth, making it the perfect spot to catch up with friends.

Hello Sunday

With one of the best and most interesting menus in the city, Hello Sunday has been a mainstay in the Christchurch brunch scene since opening in 2015. From lighter options like peach and nectarine bircher to the more indulgent beef cheek hash and Mexican fried chicken burger, the menu is constantly changing but always tasty. Formerly a post office and then a church, this beautiful Sydenham cafe is the kind of place you’ll want to take your mum, your grandma, your best friend and all your out-of-town visitors, it’s just that good.

Miro

Central Christchurch

Miro in the pink Midland Building is the Chur’s go-to for its extensive and delicious menu. Think colourful smoothie bowls, delicious eggs benedict served on hash and AllPress coffee to wash it all down. Formerly known as Cafe Roma, the Midland Building has ample outdoor seating overlooking the Avon River. It is an ideal spot for people watching over your poached eggs.

Little Pom's

Christchurch Central

A true Christchurch institution, Little Pom's is a stylishly cosy spot for brunch. Serving up all your favourite brunch staples with a seasonal twist, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to again and again. Sharing a building with their older brother, Pomeroy’s, you’ll also find a selection of craft beer and wine available. If you like your brunch with cocktails, their mimosas and bloody Marys are both worth trying.

Oddfellows Cafe

Addington

Another great gem to the Addington café scene is Oddfellows. We recommend trying out their Breakfast Butty, fried egg and bacon with house-made relish and mayo on a toasted brioche bun. Another standout is their Brioche Cinnamon French Toast with berry compote, coconut yoghurt and maple syrup. The coffee is also a firm favourite which they roast and sell on site. With fabulous food, delicious coffee and superb service, what more could you ask for.
